Sermon: Play it Safe and You May Be Sorry

Summary: Many Christians have embraced a better-safe-than-sorry approach toward their faith.  It is frequently argued, if you have any doubt, don't do it.  Playing it safe is sometimes held up as the sure path.  In Jesus' parable of the talents in Matthew 25, the man who played it safe and took no risks is called a wicked and lazy servant and is cast out.  In another of Jesus' parables, he encourages the children of light to use great ingenuity, creativity, and innovation in being shrewd for the kingdom's sake (Luke 16:1-13).  In our individual lives and in the kingdom, we must learn to dream big and take big risks for the sake of the gospel (cf. Prov. 14:4).
